Bigfork, Montana senior Makena Morley has a comfortable lead as she starts on the second loop of the Bob Firman Invitational elite girls race on September 27, 2014 at Eagle Island State Park, Eagle, Idaho.

Morley set a new course record covering the 5k cross country course in 17:24.6 and was followed by last year's champion Lucy Biles (17:42.9) Herriman, Utah, sophomore Aubrey Argyle (17:43.4) Davis, Utah, her sister freshman Bryn Morley (17:51.9) and senior Emily Hamlin (18:02.1) Boise, Idaho.

Morley bested the previous record of 17:29.3, set by Amy-Eloise Neal of Glacier Peak (Snohomish, Wash.) in 2012.
