Bishop Kelly Activities Director Tom Shanahan at the finish line area of the Idaho High School Cross Country State Championships on October 27, 2012 at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, Idaho.

Shanahan was the Bishop Kelly Head Cross Country (11 years) & Head Track Coach (4 years). He was named “State Cross Country Coach of the Year” nine times for girls, and three times for boys. He was named “District Coach of the Year”, nine times for girls and eight for boys. Under Shanahan’s tutelage, the girls won ten straight district titles from 2002-2011, while the boys won eight overall and four straight from 2008-2011. Shanahan was named “Northwest Regional Coach of the Year” in 2009 when the Bishop Kelly girl’s team finished runner-up at the prestigious Nike Northwest Regional Cross Country meet and thus became the first Idaho team to ever qualify automatically for Nike’s Cross Country National meet in Portland, Oregon.

In track Shanahan was named “Girl’s State Coach of the Year” two times, 2010 and 2012, and “District Coach of the Year” three times for girls ’09, ’10, ’12 and three for boys, ’10, ’11, ’12.
