Angie Smith's "New American Voters 2020" campaign included a wheat paste poster series of installations on building facades throughout downtown Boise. Even though the election is over, most of them are still up. Second Chance Building Materials Center, 1420 W Grove St, Downtown Boise, Idaho, November 21, 2020.

These posters feature New Americans Say Yo (Myanmar) and Fatuma (Kenya), both who voted for the first time on November 3, 2020.

New American Voters 2020, created by the NPNA (National Partnership for New Americans), is a national effort which targets and uplifts the diverse stories of the newly naturalized, especially in states where there are sizable populations of newly naturalized citizens and where their engagement in the electoral process could have a significant influence in election outcomes.

Angie Smith's project @strongershinesthelightinside was inspired by this national effort so she created a Boise based campaign. She worked closely with 13 New Americans, mostly voting for the first time to create a series of posters, each with a unique message crafted by conversations between Angie and the participant.

Angie Smith is a photographer and artist living in LA and Boise. She has worked as an editorial and commercial photographer for New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, Time, and Oprah, and her installation, Stronger Shines the Light Inside, was recognized by the Obama Administration as one of the most impactful projects to integrate refugees in America.
