The lead pack (L to R: Punky Duran Presli Hutchison, Emily Hamlin, Lila Klopfenstein, Josie Brown, and Mikayla Malaspina) at the start of the second loop during the Idaho High School Cross Country State 5A Championships on October 27, 2012 at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, Idaho.

Boise sophomore Emily Hamlin won the race posting the fastest girl's time of the meet, 18:09.40, to claim her second state cross country title. She was followed by Coeur d'Alene sophomore Josie Brown (18:13.50) and Vallivue sophomore Mikayla Malaspina (18:21.90). These three also finished 1-3 in the 2011 state meet with Hamlin first, Malaspina second and Brown third.
